Real food resolution
July 2, 2009
After reading In Defense of Food, here is my Philippine-condition adapted resolution with regards to my health (already compromised by my high blood pressure) and eating habits:
- I’m going to avoid buying processed foods as much as possible.
- I’m not going to eat foodstuffs which are excessively packaged and have ingredients that are unfamiliar (too chemistry-sounding), unpronounceable or more than five in number.
- I’m not going to eat foods that are too focused on their supposed health benefits.
- I’m going to avoid buying from the supermarket as much as possible; I’m going to do most of my food shopping in the wet market (this one’s very easy).
- I’m not going to eat anything from that awful place we call café (either under the GAB or near the OUR).
- I’m going to eat more leaves and less meat.
- I’m going to try other foods (seaweeds, alugbati, etc.) to diversify my diet.
- I’m avoiding, at the pain of death, all fast food outlets.
- I’m going to eat only three times a day (with a few water breaks and light snacks in between) and only in the place designated for eating – that is, the dining table at home (my schedule will allow it).
- I’m going to eat with my family and my friends most of the time.
- I’m going to eat slowly (tasting more than ingesting).
- I’m going to improve my cooking skills.
- I’m going to increase the time I spend walking.

Alugbati tastes good. *wink*
Seaweeds… processed?
Yes, savour the food. Don’t just chew then swallow. That’s my opinion, but then again, it may just be an excuse for how slow I eat.
Basically, let’s eat together when I visit UP. Ok?
